What is Mixed Reality?

Unlike AR or VR, it does not take place in either the real world or the virtual world. In other words, Augmented Reality + diminished reality = mediated reality. This form of reality offers an enhanced visual experience over AR or VR.

Does that mean Augmented Reality is a form of Mixed Reality? Or what's the difference?

Augmented Reality displays information overlayed on a real view. While Mixed Reality (MR) allows the user to interact with the actual environment.
This usually requires a good understanding of the actual environment and can currently be experienced with Augmented Reality Headsets such as the HoloLens or the Magic Leap. Smartglasses are also a great tool for MR.

Actually, it is simply digital information generated by a machine that gets visualized in AR or VR. But today it is more common to use the term ‘XR’ as a compilation of AR, VR and MR.

What does 'spatial' mean?

The internet we are currently experiencing is flat. We stare at monitors, smartphones and at screens, screens and even more screens. What the spatial web does, is adding a new dimension. It makes our digital experiences three-dimensional, projects information and ideas into the world around us, makes them tangible, gives them a shape.  
Spatial means breaking down borders between our current reality and the digital dimension. And that’s what we’re doing with immersive XR technologies. Creating a world where those two blend together and transform literally every aspect of our daily lives – how we live, work, interact, consume, and communicate. We’re making reality digital.  
It’s our spatiality, you might say.

Can I become an Augmented Reality creator?

Training possibility: Facebook, for example, offers an application to make AR with Spark AR Studio (without writing code).
For the publishing industry: with Zappar and HP Reveal being great AR beginner tools.
You can also create a channel with the ‘Augment’ app to display AR Designs. Similar options are possible with Snapchat.
The most famous AR Party in the Netherlands was Layar (later acquired by Blippar).

What types of AR are there?

Let’s start with Broadcast AR: With the “mirror” shape, the user looks at a screen and sees himself/herself, as well as the Augmented Reality model. Both the user and the digital model are visible on the same screen.
Screen AR: The AR model is displayed on the “lens” model. This screen is located between the user and the AR model. IA smartphone screen or AR glasses (Hololens/Magic Leap) may be used as a screen but these are AR apps that you can experience on your smartphone.
Projected AR: The main feature of spatial Augmented Reality combines an object with a physical object. The most famous is Projection Mapping (or 3D Video mapping).
There are already many projections on buildings and other objects to utilize.
Finally: Holograms &#8211; a holographic projection actually falls under Projected AR. As an example the projection of an artist on a stage (done with &#8220;gauze cloth&#8221;) or a reflection of a glass screen (Hologram display/Holobox).
