It is a series of complex calculations and algorithms to construct a map of an unknown environment. At the same time it keeps track of a location in that created space. SLAM eliminates the need for trackers or markers to anchor a product in space.

It is able to measure the time it takes for light to return from surrounding objects which is combined with video data to map a room. The actual environment can be digitalized and then data can be added to it.
Today there are only a limited number of devices available that can perceive a reasonably accurate image of space in this way such as the HoloLens and the Magic Leap.

Please note that these don’t translate and aren’t easy to explain in English. Wherever those don’t work, we use a colon as it’s one of the most common options – “alle Mitarbeiter:innen” (all employees) or “jede:r Mitarbeiter:in” (every employee).
